Dropping Wheat Day 1

I feel like I’m always getting myself into something… -run a marathon- triathlons-no drinking alcohol-nothing out of a bag or box-bodybuilding contest- …. now I’m on a ‘Wheat Free’ gig.

Since post show I have had this constant headache. It feels like I’m wearing a hat a little too tight on my head. Driving Zach to school I had it… doing laundry… it’s just there. I didn’t have this when I was eating my comp ‘diet’ food. I hate calling it a ‘diet’ because I was really eating the best I ever had… not low calorie -not deprived – never was I hungry… I was just eating awesome all day long for 4 months. Is my body telling me not to go back? Back to simple LAZY eating, being able to eat whatever whenever. Without much thought, whatever I felt like. I did eat carbs on my ‘diet’ … so this is not dropping carbs, just wheat.

This whole “not feeling normal” thing needs to stop …. saw the book Wheat Belly and picked it up. Read it and it just opened me up to this, lol, my husband I’m sure is like “Here we go.” lol. He really should appreciate me more. 🙂   He’s a lot healthier sticking by me than if I let him run wild. Can’t turn back time!

I also decided on this because…

1. I have Gout and I get  Heart Burn. I’m one ball of acid I guess. Woke up one morning about a year ago and I couldn’t walk. The tip of my toe hurt so bad I could cry. I couldn’t sleep…putting a sheet over it at night felt like a bi%&#! Woke up Christmas Eve and I felt like my foot was getting cut off. Went to the emergency room and she says I have gout. Didn’t know what that was. It’s common in overweight older men… and I have it. Really? damn. She gave me a bottle pills.. I took them and was waking that night. A Christmas Miracle!!

Gout: A type of arthritis. It occurs when uric acid builds up in blood and causes inflammation in the joints. Acute gout is a painful condition that often affects only one joint; Chronic gout is repeated episodes of pain and inflammation. More than one joint may be affected.

Wheat Increases blood acidity. Meats do this also, veggies and fruits are your alkalines -they bring you back to a normal state. Add wheat in there and it throws you off. I can’t drop meat… so wheat it is.

Your body will do whatever it needs to do to stay at it’s normal PH, being slightly acidic and your body robs your bones of calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate. Calcium brings your body back to happy land. This calcium robbery though will eventually lead to osteoporosis, arthritis, and disappearing cartilage to name a few. Bone fractures, hip replacements, knee pain are more prevalent as we age because of weak bones, caused by wheat? Look at how people eat…

I also just started looking at all the foods that have wheat. Most of them are unhealthy anyway. All those boxed snacks and treats…

side note… since the USDA started saying “Eat more Whole Grains” America has gotten fatter and fatter.

I’m just getting rid of it.

I highly recommend reading Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis. He details the changes Wheat has been put through in Science labs… also the relationship of wheat with depression, ADHD, and Autism.

  1. Most wheat products come highly preprocessed in the form of pasta or breads. Because of that reason alone, I only eat one maybe two servings of wheat daily.

On the other hand, I will eat two to three servers of white rice bought in 20 pound sacks daily.

My biggest issue with food is not having control of it’s preparation. I’m probably getting the effects of wheat free from avoid pre-prepped foods.

    Great blog!

    • I agree! So many people don’t even think about it though… food shouldn’t last 3 years in a box… I’ve cut out wheat which was hard at first, but then yes, there’s rice and my fave… corn tortillas! Thx for stopping in 🙂
